Jalapeno Margarita
Allison's "Re-Entry" Margarita's had a bit of a kick to them Saturday night. Sliver's of jalepeno in the bottom of the pitcher. And none of that metallic bitterness that my limes have lately been giving me and causing me to have to add more triple-sec. Stay tuned for the recipe.
Well since I never could get Jackie to cough up Allison's email, I couldn't invite the creator of this cocktail to chime in here so I went ahead and did some "testing."
As we all know, a margarita is equal parts tequila, lime juice and triple sec, except that triple sec is often cloyingly sweet and um, not very tasty and oh, I almost forgot, our friend Stephen stopped by on the way back to Maine from Mexico and brought something called Controy which is maybe how Cointreau is pronounced in Spanish - and just in time for recipe testing.
A) Lime-Lemon Juice - one lemon for each 4-5 limes
B) Orange Liguor - (no cheap Triple Sec. Use Cointreau or Controy (oh boy - make sure to check out this link for a better discussion of what to use for the sugary orange flavor in a maragtrita)
C) Tequila - no need to go crazy on a high end Anejo or Reposado sipping Tequila. We've been using a silver tequila like Cuervo or Sauza (see if you can find one called Tequila Mico. It was only about $25 at the New Hampshire Liquor Store for the 1.75L big bottle with a cute little monkey on the label and made a smooooth cocktail - haven't seen it in Georgia.)
Repeat as necessary.
**UPDATE**

The Recipe
Combine equal parts of A) B) and C) in a cocktail shaker full of ice add a couple of slivers of jalepeno (if you mash the jalapeno with the side of your knife, you'll get a bit more kick) and shake like hell and strain into a well-chilled martini glass. Goes really well, almost excellently, with a Friday late afternoon and lot's of children under the age of 12 and a barking dog or two.
